Re: K Frame Removal

Back on the rear hex of the torsion bar, where you took out the clips- clean out the dirt and spray liberally with PB Blaster. Also spray liberaly at the front hex. Slide the rear rubber boots frontward in case they are binding up the T.B. The notched and bolted together wooden blocks is an idea I wish I had thought of. . Do not scratch , ding, or mar the TBars if you are going to re-use them. I wrapped my bars , put a pipe wrench on them jaws over the wrapping, and applied pressure sideways ( to the rear) and tapped the side of the P wrench with a hammer. Worked for me.............................MO ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dennis C." <dennis.2914@xxxxxxxxx>

Sounds like you are very close to getting it out.

The torsion bars must come out. Gary H. gave you a link, I didn't
follow it but basically two hardwood blocks bolted over the torsion bar
make a good tool to hammer the bars back. The adjusters must be fully
backed out and no tension on the bars.

If the torsion bars are out and the steering shaft dosconnected you
should be able to drop the K member down and back and let the strut bars
drop out of the frame.

Good Luck

Ok, I thought my mechanical abilities would just let me breeze through
removing my K Frame but I was wrong and at a stand still. Although I
have read the online how to's I can't get past where I am now. I have
the shocks, upper control arms off at the top, the torsion bar adjuster
is loose as I can get it. The torsion bar clips are out in the back the
bolts are off the front, the strut rod bolts are off, but I can't get
the suspension to move enough to get the struts off.

What do I need to do, do the struts come out next, if so how?
