RE: Rear-ends

Rich, I've got a 489 in my 63. I replaced the yoke and pinion seal without replacing the crush sleave in this, and also in my GTX. Not sure I can tell you the procedure, but it is in the later model repair manual. IIRC, it has to do with using a torque wrench and measuring what it takes to break the nut loose, or some such. Might have to do with how many inch pounds it takes to turn the pinion freely. Not sure. I don't have a FSM by me now to check, it's in the shop. Maybe someone else has one and can look if you don't. Anyway, it worked very well. Sealed nice, no noise, works fine. Replacing crush sleaves is no picnic as I recall.
