I had the grill on my '65 Belvedere clear powdered coated 5+ years ago. It looks fine.  Just make sure the metal is buffed good and smooth then clean the compound off of it.

My suggestion is to talk to a powder coating company. The grill and emblem need to stand up to the heat in the process.
