#4006630-440-1 6-9-76Pretty straight forward - "4006630-440-1" is the casting mold number and "6-9-76" is the date the block was cast - June 7, 1976.
However, the "-1" has nothing to do with the internal bores. As it is impossible for one set of molds to produce enough blocks needed for production, more than one set is used. The "-1" is the casting mold identifier. Thus "-8" would be for the 8th casting mold in use, "-5" for the 5th, "-4" for the 4th, etc.. In this manner, if any flaws appeared during the machining or assembly procedures the engine plant knew exactly which casting mold was the culprit.
For the 7T440TFH : 7 - model yeat - 1977 T - engine plant - Trenton 440 - engine size - 440-cid T - Truck use F - GVW - 19,501# to 26,000# H - Standard 4-barrel carb.I believe the second letter was for the vehicle GVW. At least one source I came across a few years back claimed that was the case. An engine for a car usually had "PC" instead of the "TF".
This stamping was usually followed by two sets of four digits, although sometimes the second set did not have the beginning 0's to fill it out to four.
Anything stamped on the right side of the block, just to the rear of the engine mount?

I got a 440 block from George today and we're curious if you wizards can tell what it was used in. I gotta think it was probably a truck or motorhome??? The casting #4006630-440-1 6-9-76 and stamped very lightly on the plate by the head is 7T440TFH I'm not 100% sure about the 440 between the 7T and the TFH. The 440 Source guide does say this block has the widest webs and the big coolant holes plus the bigger motor mount feet. It hasn't been bored either as it is still 4.32" . Just curious.
