RE: Re-upholstering? ? ?



I use Barge Cement for gluing vinyl to metal.  Meaning the back side of 
the vinyl to the metal.  You can buy it at Tandy leather stores.  It is 
a contact type adhesive.  For gluing vinyl to foam or foam to foam I use 
 3M #77 which can be purchased at automotive stores and some of the home 
centers.  It is a spray adhesive.  There was an adhesive we used to buy 
at work when we did more upholstering that we used to glue vinyl to 
vinyl.  We had it made up by a specialty chemical company.  It was like 
model cement.  We bought it by the quart and it was brushed on.
If you had some experience and knew what you were looking for it would 
probably be possible to construct your seat foam.  But it's not 
something I would have a lot of confidence doing.  The type of foam used 
in car seats is hard to find too.
Our list member Plucked Chicken bought new seat covers for his Newport 
for about $400+ by the time you bought all the naterial and went through 
the learning process $400 would look like a bargain.
