Race results

I had a great time at the races last night. Paul Lenneman made it down
there for a good portion of the time but I stayed until 11:30pm! I got
in 9 runs although I only made 8. How did I do that you ask? I raced a
'66 Barracuda race car with a 600 something hp motor. He turns 6's. He's
a friend of the now infamous :-) Pink Panther and I asked him to give it
a shot with my car. I told him to drive it like he stole it and he did.
I learned some things from him. He ran the Drag TA's thru the water and
did a proper burn out into 2d gear where he said they hooked up nicely.
(He did kill the engine as it loads up if you shut it down too quickly)
Then he got to the line and torqued it to 3800rpm's on my Frank Lupo
3000 stall converter. It worked and he got the best ever time for me at
9.718@xxxxx with a 2.104sec 60' time. (Remember, 1/8th mile) I raced him
again after that and did better but had a slight problem with staging.

I had to richen the carbs to the same as I ran at the 43deg weather and
it was 90deg with 64% humidity! I was sure it'd need to be leaned out.
What can I say the car likes fuel!

I had started the tires at 26lbs, then 23lbs and finally 20lbs. It got a
little better for 60' times every time I dropped it down. The itty-bitty
Drag radials did hook up good and were a help. My top end was off a bit
but the ET's were better. With the small 24" dia tires I was in 3d gear
about 3/4 track. With my other 27" dia tires I would be in 2d.

My times were from a first of 10.018@xxxxx to a best of 9.761@xxxxxx I
thought my reaction times were bad but actually Tom, the racer, had a
slower time than I did. I think the real issue is the slight lag in the
car with throttle response. I just need to guess it better on when to
let 'er rip. Like between the 2d and 3d light. Tom hits good reaction
times in his car but I thikn it's an issue of better responsiveness.

To end this long tirade I'd just like to say it was a blast! I sure had
a good time and I think I learned alot. I'm anxious to get out and give
it another shot!
