Anybody that can paint and repair a car can fix most cracks and paint a wheel.  I have had several 58-60 Impala wheels and a few 61 Impala steering wheels on hot rods.  Some were painted by body men, like the one in my 32 coupe.

The merc I got rid of for my Dodge had a 58 with the horn ring removed and the wheel filled in where the ring would have been:

Others I  did with just Krylon spray paint.  I am going to be redoing the dash in my 63 and the wheel is cracked on the back side so it will get done then.   Usually you have to cut out the cracks a bit to fill them and sand it smooth, and just like when they were new they will probably crack again but it is no biggie.  Many wheels had horrid designs with bad stress points on them in the 50's to the 60's.  So even after a good repair it will happen again (does that make sense?)



This was done by my dad's best bud he grew up with, he loves doing steering wheel restoring and stainless trim repair...in fact he will probably do my Dodge wheel because he loves to piddle in the garage with stuff like that and he has done it so many times he has it really down big time.  He fixed the cracks on the gold one in my coupe (originally it was blue) and our other buddy painted the car and wheel:

So a few cracks and a color change is not biggie.  Just paint and clear, you could powder coat it if you wanted.
