All I can say from experience is you will end up with a sludge filled system and a hard pedal if you try to change back or commingle the two. The DOT 5 impregnates its self into the soft parts and can't be bled out. I have experienced maybe 5% of the new conversions with problems right away, progressively more down the road, and a large proportion of them trouble free. There is just no advantage to changing over in any of the lower 48 states or I guess 56 states now, as per mr obama. One thing please do, if you do switch to DOT 5, mark the cap on your Master Cylinder DOT 5 ONLY for future owners safety. In every case of DOT 5 there is or use to be a stack of labels to stick on your master notifying anyone of it's contents, the parts guys just tossed them in the trash with a shrug of there shoulders. Ask at your parts store they may still have them to hand out. You might not be around to tell the new owner when your car is sold, we are not infallible you know! Just do what works for you, if it ant broke don't fix it!! DOT 4 matches all the specks of DOT 5 without the compatibility problems actual or preceived. This is not my opinion, I really don't know, but Rick Ehrenberg wrote in Mopar Action and confirmed again when I emailed him, he says that you can change at will among the brake fluids without changing anything else as long as you empty the old out, and all the bad things everyone says will happen are myths...just food for thought, please don't throw starters at me...
