I remember it well Jim. We did close to the same thing in Detroit. Yesterday I got the car finished with the exception of the grille. I drive to Nashville in the morning to pick it up from the chrome shop where it is being polished along with the headlight doors. They suggested that I spray a good 2 part clear to prevent any tarnishing. Beautiful day yesterday and drove the car a short distance. Everything turned out perfectly. The new 4 speed is mucho fun compared to the 727, but I think that I am going to have to re-install my 4.10. The current cam is too much for the 3.23 that I put in as well as dumping the headers in favor of manifolds. I know that there is a cam change coming up, but first I am going to try to find some early 15" pickup wheels and a set of '65 poverty caps. Plan is to have the rears done to match the width and backspace specs of the prostars that are on it now so I can still run my Mickeys. Now I have to decide if I am going to sell the A990 grille or not. I have had a few inquiries, but I have a tendency to hold on to everything. I probably need to think about selling my two '65 727's and '65 shifter setups too. Get America back to work. Buy American. If the rear tires were not the thin white wall, just black, it would tend to play with the other guy if they were thinking of racing. We thought it was a cool look, especially if you did not have the bucks or put all the bucks into the engine. The next level up would be chromed steelies up front and a little later get the reversed chrome on the rear. Mags were just too expensive in those days. The engine really should be de-cammed now, but I think that I am going to wait a bit on that. I have the base model tail lights and trunk letters replacing the 500 stuff as they were too far gone to be serviceable. I also removed the 500 wheel well and rocker panel trim. I am giving serious consideration to replacing the prostars with custom width steelies in order to look more "period". Not sure yet on that. The car is also set up as a radio and heater delete ride. I am hoping that this will be a more pleasent street machine now with the same flavor of the super rides that I saw cruising Woodward and Telegraph back in 1965. This renovation should be completed in about two weeks. I've been at it every day. Good thing that I am retired. Get America back to work. Buy American.
