I CAN tell you what can happen with a bad condenser... I had a 396 Chevy (ich, that left a bad tatse in my mouth saying that) in a 66 GTO and when I did a tune up on it, I forgot to replace the condenser. The car started up and ran so bad when I revved it up it backfired and blew a header muffler clear out the rear of the car. Changed the condenser and it ran like a top.
