Edelbrocks are the same design as Carters...they bought the design from Weber, who bought it from Federal-Mogul, who bought it from Carter many moons ago.

Jim: Good choice on the Edelbrock. They are very simple, start better than Holleys or Carters. DonTo: 1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx From: jaltemoose@xxxxxxxxx Subject: Carter AFB replacement? Date: Wed, 6 Apr 2011 12:05:03 -0400 I currently have a rebuilt 1965 Carter AFB 4 barrel on my 63 Polara 500 with a 383. I like being close to period correct but I'm getting tired of the starting difficulties. If the car has been sitting for a week, it takes a while of turning the starter to start up. We've had discussion on the board before and I think the consensus was the old Carter AFB's were prone to evaporation and it takes some cranking to refuel it. FYI, I have the standard stock style mechanical fuel pump. I'm thinking strongly about replacing it with a modern 4 barrel. Any opinions on a good compromise between driveability and a little power? I was thinking Edelbrock Performer 600 CFM. I currently have the old style choke with the thermostat sitting in the recess on the intake manifold. Any opinions on getting a new carb with electric vs. manual choke? Pros and Cons? As always, thanks. - Jim Jim Altemose, Long Island, NY '63 Polara 500 (Max Wedge) '63 Polara 500 (383) '65 Belvedere I (Street Wedge) '71 Bronco ----Please address private mail -- mail of interest to only one person -- directly to that person.
