Another
thing to check is your motor mounts and trans mount. Does the engine jump
around? They can crack and cause movement there.
Regarding the push button situation I found that my buttons were very
loose and dirty in the dash control. I took them apart, cleaned and tightened
everything and there was a world of difference. I had issues with them hanging
up, etc too. It isn't that hard to remove them. Just watch and preferably take
pictures as you disassemble.

I have the same problem with my 64 dodge polara push button
Torqueflite.
Does not matter if cold or hot and idle at 500-600rpm or less.
Terrible clunk and lurch of car. Car however shifts very smoothly
on the road including step down linkage (passing gear?)
I have checked the u joints and rear end and am convinced it is the
transmission.
Do I need to have transmission reworked or live with it?
I also notice that all buttons stay in when pressed, except drive which
engages transmission but the button pops back out. Maybe it is just worn,
since most used?

My
1963 Dodge 330 is fitted with an auto pushbutton transmission and an
automatic choke. When the transmission is engaged, it is quite
a violent reaction in both reverse and forward - what is the cure
for this? I'm worried about damage to the u-joints and the
transmission itself.
