I learned about sonic test on wall thickness when I built my Poly stroker. A seasoned block, sonic test to .110, my engine was bored .090, from 3.91 to 4.0.

To make a 413 (4.1875" bore) into a 426 (4.25") you need to do just a little more than 60 thousand - 0.0625".  Until now, I'd always thought a 413 was a 4.18" bore - glad the question on the overbore was asked. I do have an engine that is a 413 made into a 426.
 
Good thing about the 426 bore is that pistons are more readily available (barely). 
 
A recommendation I've seen relative to the overbore is to sonic test the wall thickness first to determine if it can take that much overbore - any comments on that?

Can just do 60 overbore If memory serves correct and that will be stock 426 bore.....memory is fading but I think thats what it is.
When I had mine machined it cleaned up at 10 over so I just special ordered some Childs and Alberts.
