FWIW, a Challenger and Cuda restoration guide claimed leaf springs were usually painted semi-gloss black although some were an unpainted finish. Paint the springs stainless steel paint to duplicate the unpainted look. I don't know if 1964 manufacturing plants used this same technique though. http://newstalgiamotors.com/images-content/cars/1964Plymouth/15.jpg shows a supposedly mostly unrestored 1964 Plymouth, with Dana installed.
