I wanted to increase the compression on my late modle 452 heads on a less than 8.2 comp. 440. Those open chamber heads are about 88 cc- I had a set of 516 closed chamber heads that measured close to 76cc. With an .18 thous. head gasket, the formula says I will have a little over 9.4 comp without changeing pistons. The 516 heads have a small exhaust valve, so i am having larger exhaust valves with hardened seats installed now. With that exhaust valve , it is said that my heads will flow better than stock 452 heads......................................MO 2On Oct 11, 9:35 pm, Jason Rhoades <Ja...@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > We have run manu a motor w what turned out to be 7.5 -8 :1 compression w what most would call a big cam (312-590<tel:312590> mech) and on the street no less. > I will say more compression is nice but didnt make any real seat of the pants improvement till we really squeezed it the fact the heads flow better and the better seats will make a big improvement. Thats my opinion and experience. We dont have a drag strip close so we base on what we feel and go to the strip to verify when we get visiowave a chance > > Sent from my Motorola ATRIX™ 4G on AT&T > > > > -----Original message----- > From: Jay <shelby_...@xxxxxxxxx> > To: "1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" <1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Sent: Wed, Oct 12, 2011 01:39:33 GMT+00:00 > Subject: Re: Heads > > Engine has a performance cam in it already, I don't know the spec's (was in there when I bought the car), it idles fine but has that nice cam sound, probably a purple or similar. > > It also has a weiand single plane intake and a holley 750, comp roller rockers and hedman shorty headers, so I'm sure the extra flow capacity of the 452's will help.... > > From: Jason Rhoades <Ja...@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> > To: "1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" <1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Sent: Tuesday, October 11, 2011 8:43:44 PM > Subject: Re: Heads > > Are you going to run the same cam and or upgrade the cam at the same time > > Sent from my Motorola ATRIX™ 4G on AT&T > > -----Original message----- > From: Jay <shelby_...@xxxxxxxxx> > To: "1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" <1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Sent: Tue, Oct 11, 2011 21:57:42 GMT+00:00 > Subject: Heads > > Hi all, > > So got a bad head gasket in the 383 in my 64 Newport Convertible, so time to pull the heads. > > They are the original 516 castings, and, based on the variety of valve tip heights (and the fact that I had to shim the rocker shaft on one side just to get one valve to close all the way), they need some help. > > I have a good set of 452 heads, they have the hardened seats and the larger 1.74 exhaust valves, but are open chamber heads. > > The 383 in my car is a 1966 2-bbl engine, with 9.2:1 compression. > > If I use the open chamber heads anyone know how much compression I will lose? > > And with the better flow and larger exhaust valves in the 452's help make up for it in performance? > > Any insight would be appreciated! > > Jay > -- > -- > Please address private mail -- mail of interest to only one person -- directly to that person.
