Also if it is hard to get to around the AC, and you do get to it, I would make two long leads and relocate it to a more convenient location for the next time!! Just my $0.02 worth

Try pushing down on the tab, usually at the top of the inside of it. You probably will have to use a stubby screwdriver to remove the screws to remove the inner part of the ash tray holder.
