Re: distributors for 318 poly engine

I have just "been there" on this same issue with my LA318 street rod. The magnetic pick-up coil distributors are very simple. Don't see much of an advantage in new vs rebuilt and I don't know see how a "performance" distributor could be much better. I ended up with a rebuilt distributor from Autozone. O'Riely's and Advance all have the same part number and same supplier. I also think you would need to change your coil. In my particular situation I ran into some serious problems trying to use the Mopar Ignition module. I had some residual power (,1 volt) on the "start" circuit. As a result it would not run. After consulting with my local Mopar buddies the only "fix" we could come up with was wiring a relay in the start circuit or go with a different ignition module. I went with a MSD module. Anyway, your local parts store has everything you need. If you decide to go the magnetic pick up coil route, I have all the part numbers and wiring diagrams if interested.

Thanks for the advice. One question: Are there any new "points"
distributors still sold for the small block?

The least expensive Mopar distributor the for LA and Poly (same application) is the Summit Electronic Ignition kit; my guess is the same quality as the Mopar Performance with the same performance and durability.
