I know exactly what you mean "Junk". I have pictures of what it looked like after I took out the one you had trouble with, the silicone did not make it to the end of the seal retainer but it did come out between the retainer and the block. Take a look at this: http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/brbhemenoils.html The following are good seals, it is what I am now using however I tried their seal retainer and the one I have is actually taller than stock and caused a problem with the pan gasket: http://store.440source.com/Rear-Seal-Caps/products/26/ The good news on my 63 SF I can drop the center link and drop the pan without any problems. I used a couple of long bolts with the heads cut off as guides to slide the seal retainer up and in place. I had the area completely clean and a dab of RTV in the corners. I slid the retainer in, made sure the side gibs looked good, pulled the guide bolts out one at a time and installed the seal retainer bolts. Good Luck Dennis C.
