Re: PS Pump question

Rich,
You know all the problems I had with the PS on 41. (Actually it was like a water fall and I had to start fixing leaks at the top and work my way down. Ended up replacing everything including the sector)

The one thing I did learn is to get a complete pump and tank unit. When I went with just a pump; the pump/tank seal leaked. Mine from O’Reillys is working great.

Subject: PS Pump question

After running my car with the ps pump belt removed for a couple days and raing at the track that way my ps pump is leaking badly at the front seal.

I can't imagine running without the belt would stress the pump in that area?  I took it off for two reasons. First it's pretty skitish at speed with that touchy PS.  Second I was afraid 7500rpm's might demolish it?  It's done OK at 6500rpm's for quite a few years.  I did run it up to those rpm's with it connected previously.

Anybody got any ideas?  Just a fluke aka Murphy's Law?  I found a couple pumps listed at NAPA and O'Reilley's.  NAPA was NSP 816680 and O'Reilley was 20-6129.  I'm not sure which is correct but there's a better picture of O'Reilley's and it looked right. They are about $53 plus core w/res.. Actually w/o res was $6 higher at NAPA??
