I'm not trying to say what is right or what is wrong. If you ask ten people about oil you might get ten different answers. This same thread went on for months on other sites. I was just stating what works for me. Cats have been in cars for close to 40 years. In the last few years they started reducing the zinc in some oils.

I have been using diesel 15/40 in my older cars. My MG has
solid lifters too. Diesel oil contains Zinc tom withstand the my duramax has over 500,000 miles without a
rebuild. There was a lot of discussion about different oils several months ago
on the MG web site. Many were using the 15/40. MG�s cams don�t like the newer
oils.

That's what I use in my 65 383 Coronet 500. VR-1 Racing
also has zinc in it.
