RE: Disc brake conversion

Thanks to everyone who gave advice.  Having said that, the early 70's C-body cars are kinda hard to find in junk yards around here.  Thanks to greedy ass wipes who crush the old stuff for money, it's really not that easy to find good used parts.  If this was ten years ago or more yeah, would have been a snap.  But four about years ago the price of scrap metal spiked and there was alot of crushing going on around here.  We're talking perfectly straight cars with minor dints or seized motors being squashed because they were heavy four doors.  A lot of them could have been plated and driven after very little tlc.  Luckily I saved a four door 65 Polara with an awesome front clip, trunk lid and tail lights from such an auction.  I even sold the hood letters to Jack Cheek (list member) and he said they were mint.  Three other Polara's like my four door went to be pancaked.  Such a shame.

Re: Disc brake conversion

I have a scarebird rear disc conversion for my 72 cuda and the plates are heavy and well made. Another likely alternative is AAJ. I have his on my 65 Imperial and have a set of AAJ for the '49 also which I haven't installed yet. I'm afraid you'll have a job trying to find factory parts to convert that.

Hey everybody.  Can y'all tell me what I need to do a disc brake conversion on my 65 Polara.  It's a single master manual set up.  I would like to add a power booster to it.

I know one thing for sure.  The MC from a 67 to like 72 C-body will bolt up, from what I've been told.  The booster I'm not sure of.  Or even if I can add one, given there's a 440 where the 318 use to be.

I am thinking about buying a kit from Scarebird.com cuz they say you can use your original spindles, which would make things easier.  They also say that with their kit you have to buy off the shelf parts to complete assembly, such as 94-99 Dodge Ram callipers and 70-72 Ford galaxy rotors.  They say for hoses they'll send part numbers versus length comparisons.  Here is a link.

Now having this info would you do it this way or would you go the junk yard route and piece everything together?  Has anyone on the list used Scarebird products and how was your experience?  Any input would be appreciated as the last time I drove my car I was two footin' it and it still didn't really like it should.  Even with drum brakes it should've stopped way sooner.

Thanks
