There was a guy making a complete kit to fit a modern gas strut for the trunk prop duty.  It included new brackets and templates to mount them.  I put one on our '65 about 3 years ago, which was missing the prop, and it worked great.  He sold them on eBay.  I just checked ebay and then did a general google on it and can't find anything now though.  I will try to check my file folder for that car tonight and see if I still have the instruction sheet and contact info.

 and the other style was on the passenger side but used a ratcheting rectangular style prop. It was used on '64s and some 65s. I had one but can't seem to find it right now. I send a pic direct to you if I find it.
