Not ugly, imho, just very "space race" '50s mentality: "The second hand! It's a little orange ball that "orbits" around the clock every minute... just like a satellite around our planet!" as noted on that reference page. I had forgotten all about that. And the analog GPS works well until you need to refold it.

The 1962-3 big Dodges put the odometer where that clock sat in 1960.
