The switch on my '63 failed too.  It took me awhile to find it because it was also intermitant.  On mine one of the male lugs on the back of the switch was broken where it riveted to the back.  So it would make contact sometimes and sometimes not.  The key cylinder is removable so you can keep the same one and install it on the new switch.
