Re: Electric Steering

Had manual steering on the '65 Satellite-steering box, tie rods and joints were completely gone which made for combined slack best described as steering by wandering around. Upgraded every front end component including new tubular upper control arms, reinforced lower control arms, 11/16" tie rods, KYB shocks, 1" torsion bars, adjustable brake struts, Flaming River steering box (16.1) and stainless coupler to mate it to the stock steering shaft. I believe the Flaming River pieces fit '62 to '73 B bodies.

Car drives wonderful unless you are below 5 mph and then turning is a chore. My wife can't drive it so I'm really going to take a look at electric steering. I don't want a p/s pump hanging on the motor, very happy with the low mount a/c compressor there. Anyone that has experience with electric steering assist on a B, would like to hear from you.

I have not but Car and Driver did a review comparing the two systems (not Mopar)
http://www.caranddriver.com/features/electric-vs-hydraulic-steering-a-comprehensive-comparison-test-feature
One incentive is the electric gives more MPG so the car companies are jumping on it.

You can talk to Firm Feel  http://www.firmfeel.com/ and Steer and Gear http://www.steerandgear.com/
to see what they suggest could improve your car's  manual steering.

Flaming River sells a quick ratio 16:1 new Mopar manual steering box though I can't recall the years it fits.

You could also consider switching your 330 to traditional power steering.

Let us know what you discover.

Thanks,
Gary H.
