Well I've never measured it as you have, but, I use to screw a 3/4"
pipe nipple into literally hundreds of drums, with a 3/4" brass gate
valve attached.
No gasket needed because of the tapered thread on the nipple..
I think the only reason there is a shoulder/flange on the plug, is to
let air in when the drum is laying down( it's easily unscrewed by hand
when loosened), and a 2" valve attached on the opposite side of the
drum, as a drain.
But it couldn't be substituted as a Max Wedge/Hemi manifold plug.Well
I guess it could, but a big wooden stick would work too. :<)
