Re: First Car

Hi fellas and gal,
My first car was a 1956 Savoy 2 dr sedan. My uncle drove it from his house to ours to sell it to me in 1965, at Christmas. My grandmother bought it new and my uncle used it for work but the rust was becoming unsightly and he was a banker so it had to go. Since my uncle had many nephews my age, and not to show any favoritism, he sold it to me for whatever cash I had on my person. So it was mine for 37 cents! Later my dad made me send him $10.00 to cover his trip fuel. She lasted 6 months until a rod became unhappy while racing a 1950 Plymouth with the same flathead six. I lost.

This was my first one. Bought it from my best friend for  $75 using some HS graduation and summer job money. The insurance cost me more than 4 times what I paid for the car. Found out later that my friend didn’t buy the car but won it in a poker game.

It got replaced by one of these that I bought for $150 from the Dodge dealer where my Dad bought all his new cars.
