Actually, in 1964, the Pontiac I-6 was a weak little 215, cousin of the Chevy 230.

The Pontiac Sprint sixes were John Delorean's design and came along later (available from 1966-69).  Nifty OHC engines that were highly overlooked in the V8 muscle car heyday.
