Just a bit of old school. Didn't have much respect for the 350 bowtie. I tried to stay away from the original 327's. That was more comparable to the 340 to me. They made a mistake dropping it.

Pop hot rod mag ran a comparo
of the 350ish engines for about 4-5 years in that era. It
was the 351 Ford, 350 Chev, 350 Pont, 350 Olds and the 340.
The 340 came out waaay on top every year. It was
hugely underrated. I still have those mag's too.

then when they kicked my 335hp 383 just about every time I
had to run one of those lil "under-estimated HP
