If you want to keep the brass looking screen just clean it with solvent and reinstall.   Or you can use the cotton style filter used on newer TFs.  For 62 your Newport should have an aluminum TF in it!  BTW those 62 & newer push button trannys with the parking brake are the Rosetta Stone for newer engine conversions on 61s and back, replacing the cast iron TFs in C Bodys for lack of a better discription.
