David, Not sure if '65 and '64 are exactly the same fuel system but I ran into a similar situation with my Satellite. Would fuel starve after operating for awhile and when I pulled the gas cap off it was difficult to turn and then a splash of fuel followed out of the filler neck, meaning vacuum in the fuel tank. Non vented caps may have worked fine in the 60's with the quality of fuel, 5/16 fuel line and low volume pumps but not up for the task with Ethanol blends, high volume Edelbrock pump and 3/8 lines I'm running. I ended up drilling a 3/16 hole in the cap and never had the problem again. Did you happen to open the gas cap and get a "whoosh" of air escaping? Might just need a new cap/ Paul L.
