Like I posted previously, you can get axles cut to whatever length you need...

Bear in mind differences in the thrust blocks within the pumpkins of those models, that could catch you out. 

Frankly, I don't think this is an 'upgrade', rather a change because you don't understand the whole picture. And I'm pretty sure the bearings for the tapered axles are different to those on the flanged axles.
