Re: Driveability Problem

What gas are you using?
Using 10% ethanol....My experience with these old carbureted engines; you need the next size bigger  main jet. Sounds as if you are not getting enough fuel. You need more fuel with the E gas.

Subject: Driveability Problem

My 65 Barracuda with a 273 engine starts and idles very well.  When accelerating it runs rough but smooths out at a constant speed. Points, timing, valves are all dead on.  It has a new, not rebuilt, distributor and spark plugs and wires are new.  The Carter BBD carburetor was recently completely rebuilt by a reputable carburetor shop but it did not correct, change or improve the situation.  The repair shop where the car now is has gone through everything and they feel that it is still a fuel problem.  In fact, they feel the engine is getting too much gas (though the fuel mixture is adjusted to spec and I have noticed no black smoke from the tailpipe).  Given all the facts above, does anyone have any suggestions?  Am I missing something?

I have an old Stromberg WW3 that I will have the shop put on so as to compare how it runs with the Carter.  I asked the carb shop if the jets could be bad but he said no.  In any event, jets are apparently not available for this carb.  Thanks for any help. Bob from Maine
