The April 2015 issue of Collectible Automobile has an article on 1962 Super Stock Cars. The sedans reviewed include the Chevy Biscayne 2D 409 ci 409 hp, Ford Galaxie 2D 406 ci 405 hp, Pontiac Catalina 2D 421 ci 405 hp and Plymouth Savoy 2D and Dodge Dart 2D 413 ci 410 HP. The Mopars had a 250 lb weight advantage over the Chevy, 450 lb over the Ford and 570 lb over the Pontiac. The Mopars had a 10% edge in 0-60 mph (5.8 vs. 6.3 for the Pontiac and Chevy) and 14.1/101 in the quarter mile vs. the next best Chevy at 14.9/98.
Although I owned one, I have never cared for the 62 Mopar body, much preferring the 62 Pontiac, but numbers don’t lie. They also don’t lie in values. Collectible Automobile estimates that the two Mopars in 2D sedan form are worth 10% more than comparable Pontiacs, 50% more than comparable Fords and twice a comparable Chevrolet Bel Air 2D sedan (although a HT Bel Air closes the gap). Interesting. Bob from Maine
