That's is correct. The VIN of the vehicle is not stamped on the block and transmission in prior years (prior to 1968?). The best you can do is date matching. Someone over the years I've been here has said these dates could be many months prior to the assembly date of the car. Obviously, it can't be correct if it is a date after the date the car is manufactured.

Just for clarification, the term 'numbers matching' with Mopar only exists for '68 and later vehicles when the VIN was stamped on the block and transmission. Earlier cars can't be proven one way or the other. For these cars 'correct' is as good as it gets with the correct components having date codes in a reasonable range for the vehicle build date.
