Aluminum Restoration

I'd like to get some information regarding the restoration of the aluminum mouldings on my 64 Plymouth Sport Fury. I'm looking at the eyebrow mouldings right now. Are the YouTube videos showing the cleaning with oven cleaner a good way to go with this?  What next? There's a fair amount to pitting I'd like to work through, but I don't want to damage the pieces either. No where better to go than here for advice. Thanks/ Butch
