This would work fine, as long as you had the correct 383; Chrysler made 2 different 383's. The main bearing caps will physically bolt on between the two engines, but the journal sizes are different. The bearing caps must fit precisely with the block, and since no two blocks are identical, the main caps must always be machined when they are on the block they will be used with. Line boring is a relatively common procedure.
