If you are simply replacing the current timing chain with a new assembly, then you would align the two marks in the cam and crank gears to face each other and install the chain assembly. The keyway locations in the crank and cam set the relative alignment of the cam to the crank, and this will assure that the engine is still timed correctly. If the cam has been pulled from the engine, then you would have to go through the full timing setup/lifter adhustment/distributor gear on intermediate shaft setup procedure.
