If I remember correctly, that is an isolated field alternator. not having 2 fields but havine one field wiht terminals for both "ends". It requires battery power at one terminal (thru some sort fo "fuse" device) and the other end grounds thru the regulator to provide the variable charging rate. The 2 pin chrysler style solid state regulators did this thru the case, which is why so many failed to charge when they developed a bad ground due to rust, etc. Perhaps some of the other fellows here can confirm this explanation.
