On my 57 Dodge and my 55 Chrysler, I just don't worry about it. The self-resetting circuit breakers employed in the wiring system seem quite adequate. In point of fact, the only cars on which I have had "meltdowns" are the ones with fuse blocks. The old cars are just robustly done and it isn't a concern. If you are really concerned, however, you can add a fuse/circuit breaker panel behind the drivers kick panel and connect your existing loads through that. Then you will be double protected.
