Surf the web and pull up a pic of a 318 Polyhead engine & compare it to your engine. The poly has 2 bolt valve covers. The top of the valve cover (towards the intake manifold) is straight while the bottom (towards the exhaust) is "crooked". Also if the trans works by push button its a safe bet that it is a Mopar engine. Although with the right adapter palte you can hook up a GM engine to and Mopar tranny or GM tranny to a Mopar engine (you'd lose the pushbutton) it wasn't and still is not that common to have done. Also there should be a stamp mark under the distributor holddown tab on the poly 318.
