GM had body-on-frame cars up to 1996, Ford still makes some

The current models Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis/Marauder are body-on-frame construction. AMC was the first to go all unit body. The '58-60 Thunderbird/Lincoln basic unibody chassis was not notably any lighter for being a unit body, and it is quite likely those cars would have weighed LESS as body-on-frame chassis! (The '61-63 T-bird/Lincoln basic chassis was better in the weight department). Chrysler's engineering prowress is proven in that their 1960 unit body saved the cars weight right from the start, unlike Ford's very heavy '58 T-bird/Lincoln basic chassis.
