Big Block Crank Swap Question

Okay, we've discussed the possibility of installing a pre-'62 Poly 318 crank into an LA 318 block in order to run the newer style small block with the original type transmission in '61 and older Mopar. Would the same trick work with B and RB engines? In other words, why not use a 350 or 361 crank in the 383 B or even 400 B block block or a 383 RB crank in a 413/426/440 block in order to simplify running a newer engine in a Forward Looker? Has anybody tried this? Would newer connecting rods work?
