Generally no one condemns the destruction of a new/late-model car in a movie. Many movies destroyed future collectibles when they were new cars. I do wonder why the "Gone In 60 Seconds" remake had not chosen the 2001 Mustang Cobra R as the new "Eleanor" (with V6 lookalikes for any destruction scenes),the remake's 1968 "Eleanor" is actually older than the original movie's 1973 "Eleanor". PS: In the original movie,a very rare blue 1971 440 6-bbl. Roadrunner was totalled (it was just a used car then).
