Location: McComb, Mississippi | I'm attempting to get the auto pilot working in my imperial. I've taken the unit out of the car and tested the operation of the electric motor, magnet, and contact points. All seem fine. The unit is in the car with the cable adjusted correctly and the latch switch on the dash engages as it should. The manual isn't too clear about adjusting the linkage. I adjusted it the way I thought it should be. It makes the accelerator pedal hard to press. I was wondering if one of you who are familiar with this set up can enlighten me on the linkage adjustment? I believe I'm getting close to having it working. Thanks |

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | Hi Chris, here's an old thread with some good info
http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=25122&... Pilot&highlightmode=1#M394471
Check also the '62 manual http://jholst.net/62-service-manual/accessories.pdf
The accelerator will reach a spring load force set by the Control Cable - push over this limit and the accelerator will be normal again.
This function allows you to overtake a car without disconnecting the servo. If you should find it difficult to deal with, just set the Control Cable to the highest setting and the spring force will be felt at 90-100 mph instead.
I made a special sleeve for to adjust the linkage - instructions are in the manual....

Location: Oley, PA | Maybe slightly off-topic, but I always loved the design of the Auto Pilot system. The electromechanical design is truly iconic technology of its day.
These systems were manufactured by Perfect Circle. One interesting fact is that it was invented and designed by a blind man, Ralph Teetor, who was president of the company.

Location: McComb, Mississippi | Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking I have aground fault with the control switch. Does anyone else have a stiffer pedal? Even with the auto pilot turned off, my pedal feels stiffer than I think it should. |
