Location: GREENEVILLE, TN | I want to get the trim re-chromed on the 1957 DeSoto that goes around the door windows. The trim looks like it's rivited together. That is probably why my dad didn't have it done before. Anyone know how to remove the trim from the glass?

Location: So. Cal | It just screws together. Carefully remove all the screws and the window will slide out. But I recommend using a little heat on the screws before you attempt it because they are almost guaranteed to be rusted stuck if the car is from back East.
P.S. You have to take the window out of the door first, and this usually requires removing the wing window frame too.

Location: Ontario, Canada | The fasteners that hold the glass channels together that must be removed for Chrome plating are all rivets that must be drilled out.
I sold rivet kits to replace those for many years but my supply tried up and I have moved and retired.
A rivet supply house can probably help.

Tip:
Carefully hammer tap the glass free from the channels trying to preserve the original glass setting tape. You can reuse it by cementing it to both the channels and the glass with weatherstrip cement. To try to find the correct new glass setting tape will likely be impossible!

Location: Hay Lakes, Alberta, Canada | It's the rubber tape that is between the glass and the chrome. It seals the glass to the chrome to keep water out, and also makes sure the glass doesn't rattle. |
