Hey All, Just recently finished my Engine rebuild and was planning for reinstall. I was wondering if its possible to just bolt the Torque Converter to the crank with the Engine out the car then just seat the Torque converter when putting the engine in? Or is there no avoiding the having to install TQ nuts one by one under the car? Thanks!

I might not do it the best way, but I find it much easier to mark the torque converter to crank bolt locations, install the torque converter in the transmission, and then bolt the engine and trans together. Since seating the TC in the transmission can be a real pain, I much prefer installing the engine and transmission already joined.

How will you be able to know/tell that the TQ dogs/flat spot is completely engaged into the front pump. (Listen for the thunk) It is possible to assemble some types with the TQ into the trans without the pump being engaged resulting in no drive. Better to spend the time now to do it right than three times that latter to redo it ?

I'd mount the converter to the crank and the bell housing to the engine. The transmission is not difficult to install if one uses guide studs and align the pump drive sleeve correctly in corrospondence to the converter. Without the guide studs it's difficult and a high risk of damaging the seal in the front pump housing.

Together again. Trans and engine I put in as a unit. Don't like going under and having the use a bunch of extensions to get at where my hands can't go. Beside just easier.
