really really new to this, been on the web and searching for answers for a month or so.
i juste bought a 1956 dodge regent and a 1957 354 poly engine, looking to put a more recent 727 on it.
i know they make an adaptor plate for it, i think i have one but i am not sure.

centr-o-cast
seems to have a logo of DCPD same as the original parts....
trying to make sense of the real info and the possibilities.
could gat a 1979 727 that was on a 360

Location: Muskego, WI | Only transmissions manufactured in 1961 and earlier will fit that engine. In 1962, Chrysler changed the bellhousing dowel pin location and the crank shaft mounting flange. You can buy an adapter kit from Hot Hemi Heads that will allow an newer 727 TF trans to be attached to your '57 engine, but then you have to figure out how to actually select gears (your original push buttons won't work). |

That adapter plate is for the Powerflites and the early A-466 Cast Iron torqueflites. The later 727 torqueflites require something else entirely.
Your project is NOT as simple as you might think.

Location: Alaska | One of our members makes the proper adapters to do your project. his website is quality engineered components.com You need the bell housing adapter and the crankshaft adapter to fit the newer 727 to the 354 that he sells. I used his bell housing adapter to fit a newer BH to my 354 and an 833 4 speed.I had to modify an older flywheel to work with this. |

Location: NorCal | The problem with a 727 swap in any FL is the loss of the tail-mounted parking brake. To get a parking brake you have to swap in a later rear end or find the one-year-only '62 727 with the tail-mounted parking brake. These came only in big block full-sized cars so the tail would have to be swapped into a small block case to make the conversion. |

Location: Canada / Quebec | Yes i read that a lot but my axle has an axle striped so i was thinking of changing the whole thing and get something younger.
On a 1979 727 from a 360 it would have a parking pawl as well? |

Location: So. Cal | Yes, all automatic transmissions 1963 and up have a parking pawl, except for the truck transmissions stated below.
In the small block world, all the truck auto transmissions from '62-'64 & maybe '65 have the parking brake on the back of them. So that's a way to get it as well if you want it.

| Me wondering something. Are you trying to go to a cuolum or floor shifter doing this? When I had my 354 and it's cast iron cuz sitting out I looked at the difference in bell housing comparing the alcoa and cast versions. All I was thinking was Chrysler was cruel in changing stuff and what a bummer. Think of the diet you could put car on just getting out that cast iron monster. |

Location: Canada / Quebec | Well the car had a column shifter and i would like to keep it for the 727 i will put in i ordered an adapter to mate it and will make a reliable linkage to it if i can hahahah if not i will go floor shift i guess |
