Expert 5K+ Posts: 7205 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | OK, so I re-sized. Our local WPC Club had a tour and "Economy Run" today from Victoria to Qualicum Beach, on Vancouver Island. We started at the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal, took a short ferry ride to Salt Spring Island, drove through town and past the Ganges Public Market, & stopped for a few minutes. We then continued to the other side of Salt Spring island where we caught another ferry back to Crofton on Vancouver Island. From there we took back-roads to the town of Ladysmith, where we then got on the main highway heading north. We had a quick stop at Parksville Chrysler, where we found a beautiful 1942 Plymouth in the showroom that once belonged to Trevor and Roberta Baggot, former members of our club. Trevor passed away some time ago. After leaving the dealership, we then headed north to Qualicum Beach where we enjoyed a great lunch at the beach-side Shady Rest Pub and Restaurant. Those who drove from Victoria were Shannon and myself, Ron and Jean Wenzel, Chris Gannon and Gerry MacDonald. We were joined at the restaurant by Dave and Yvonne Owens, and Garry & Janis Cameron. who live in the area. Too bad more from the lower Island were unable to join us on the drive. It was a gorgeous day but got a little cloudy by the late morning and early afternoon. The Economy Run Results are as follows: Ron & Jean Wenzel - 1960 Dodge Polara, 361 V-8 4bbl, winner at 24 MPG (Imperial Gallons), Ian & Shannon Smale - 1960 Chrysler Saratoga, 383-4-bbl - 21 MPG, and Chris Gannon, 1958 Imperial Crown, 392 Hemi 4-bbl, 17 MPG. We started on the road at 7:30 AM and all arrived back in the Victoria area about 5:30 PM. Each driver filled up with gas at the same station at the beginning of the tour, and then filled up at another station at the end of the tour where mileage and volume of fuel used was recorded for each car. Mileage differences between odometers were relatively close, but were averaged out before gas mileage calculations were done. Fun Day! All mileage calculated in Imperial Gallons. (about 1/5 more volume than a US Gallon).
