This is part 2 of the restoration has started. My dad will be bending , fabricating metal for my '61. He will have some help from a fellow pace car club member. I do not have photos right now. I got to get my trunk card board kit yet . I plan to have carpet installed in the trunk instead of the mat. I will take some photos and post them if progress has been shown but if the welder if being used then its time for me to get the hell out of the garage.. I am typing this late so I cannot go in the garage because the dogs in my parents room will start barking especially my sister's border collie Zeke. This fool dog will even bark at his own shadow. There are times he is about to drive me to drink.

I do not drink but there was 1 time I worked 8am-4pm I had to go home get some more sleep but that dog kept me up with his barking. I told my sister flat out if her dog keeps me up with his barking he is going to disappear, I even went out with a newspaper in my newspaper in my hand , that dog went under the table with his tail between his legs I told him " You better run" I had to go back in 12 am-8am then I told the stores manager flat out I am not doing any more turn arounds. There was 1 time the owner was going to have me do that the manager said she is not going to do that she is ready to quit. I got the hell out of that place and found a better paying job with benefits

one word of advise and PLEASE follow it. cut only as much of the oe steel that really needs to be replaced. do NOT cut that high. welding will make the panel warp turning the car into a bondo bomb.

Thank you for the tip Sid. When my dad started the grinding there was a lot of bondo on the car. He also said who ever did the body work and paint job on the car before I got it did not do it right. I do not know who it was and I am not blaming anyone here. The panels are trial fits right now . I believe my dad will cut off what is not needed and use it in another spot.
The body panels were for a 1955 plymouth he was going to restore but the previous owner left the car out side with the windows down . The car was so badly rusted he took it to a scrap yard. The body panels will be used on my '61 .
I hope you have great day and keep cruising in your '60 fury Thank you again for the tip

Yes it is but I am not doing this part, but after the metal is fabricated the rusted spot will be cut out and the new metal will be welded.

A large radius in the corners of the patches will decrease the warping.......
The better fit of the patch, the lesser warping.............

Another piece of metal was fabricated and there are some markings on were the rusted part of the metal will be cut off and the replace ment metal will be welded on. When the mig welder is being used I stay out of the garage but will post photos during, middle and end of progress.

Hello every one. There has been more metal cut and more fabrication. I also noticed the inner rear fender has cancer. I know that can be cured. I took photos of the progress after the work was done . When my dad was working on the car I had to be on my way to work. Work is what pays the bills and the restoration of this car. My daily driver is paid off but all I got is my mastercard and visa but a credit counsler is taking care of this for me I did this to combine them together with out a loan out , lower my interest rates and to get them paid off faster both cards are current My insurance for the daily driver is due for renewal in November and the '61 in May of 2017.
I will be honest I am looking at 1 of those new challengers as my new daily driver but I am sitting on that 1 for a while. Here is some photos of the progress. I plan to take the metal that was cut from the car and turn it in to cash. it may not be much but its better than nothing

no its not but I blame the salt in the winter months for this, Red dye was used as primer when the car on the assembly line when it was being built and when it was repainted the last time the body work was not done right.
When I had my other 1 I had a rule during the winter months it was not allowed out of the garage and on the road . When there was ice storms the roads were icy and there was a liquid put on the roads to melt the ice on the roads.
the car cancer can be cured. I will admit I have really thought about calling it quits on the car but you know folks here are going to say do not give up it will get there . You have come along way on the car keep at it .

There has been more progress on the drivers rear fender panel I will take photos and post them later I believe the metal is being fabricated into place and then the welding will start. When that welder is on and being used its time to get out of the garage. If there is any more work I will take more photos and post them later.

You've mentioned several times the need to get out of the garage when welding is going on.....just curious, with the scope of work this restoration will require, why you can't learn and participate?

I'll offer this in a positive way: Why dont you get yourself a welding helmet and ask dad for some welding lessons? Looks like dad has a long road ahead of him.

you have to keep those body panels cool, not really amateur work I would say.

Its a fair amount of work though. I hate fender lips...

I am sure he knows this but the panels have not been welded on yet. I am sorry for my mis understanding. I guess I have learned something new today. I believe I will be helping with applying the por 15 to stop the rust on the car. a regular customer of mine who owns a body shop gave me some supplies for last Christmas to use on the car . The owner of the shop does not do restorations but only collision work.

That sounds good! Not trying to sound like a Mr. Safety, but a flying chunk of a grinding wheel striking your face or eye will end your day in the garage very badly. Thanks.

Yes it is . I get to help by applying the POR 15 to the inside of the panels. I was told to lay it in really thick. I know he did that with the other '61. He is hoping the car will be back on the road by next spring . or fall.

Here is some more progress the sanding has started on the left rear quarter panel. After the left side is done then the passenger side will be worked on . It takes 1 piece at a time. If there is any more progress I will take photos and post them later. Then more sanding will be done but since I am having the car repainted black I need to get the body perfect that means no dents it needs to be smooth and perfect.

To day there has been more sanding and bondo added were it was needed. My dad is getting the quarter prepared to be primered . He put the metal that needed to be together by drilling a screw driver in and when he welds to 2 metals together there will be a small hole so the water can drain out . He did that with the other '61. I will post a photo of the progress and I will take more in the morning or when I get up

Bondo was added were it was needed and its drying . It should be ready for primer soon . I can't wait to see it in its new suit but I am being patient with this project. It takes time I want the car done right I am sorry to be posting a lot of photos I want to show the work. My dad said this could be the last filling so it might be in primer later or on another date. Then I will take a photo and post it when its in primer

I purchased these from Amazon.com to wear when I am cruising in my '61 when it goes back on the road. I will post a photo when they get here. This style was worn back in 1961.

Hello fellow forward lookers. My shades did not come in but I did wet sanding on the rear quarterpanels to get the test paint off to see were more work needed to be done. I also did a video of it which will be posted on my you tube channel. I also took some photos of the progress . I know I said I will post photos when the car is in primer but I might as well show the progress I did. I got my book about Virgil Exner and season 6 of the Walking Dead on DVD. I would like to see my car be used in an episode of the show Here are the photos of my work

I wouldn't have been wet flatting that just yet without some proper primer on there, most of that exposed filler will have soaked up that water, get some heat on there and dry it out before the metal starts rusting under the filler?

If you're still going Black with this car, that panel needs a good 4 to 5 coats of high build 2K primer on there, then block sanding flat , and re priming, or its going to look bad in Black?

There por 15 inside the metal . I did the wet sanding to remove the test paint . That was done to see were more work needed to be done. This was done inside the garage not out. I will check on it tomorrow . I appreciate the tip also but took a dry rag to it before I left the garage
